What documents will I need?
We at Frantastic Trips and Travel cannot stress the importance of having the correct travel documents for your cruise. So much time, energy, anticipation and yes, money has gone into your cruise. We would hate for your dream vacation to go down the drain because of a technicality. Please note that the documentation required for cruises varies depending on the type of cruise, ports of call, and the location of embarkation. For the most current government requirements, please visit: http://travel.state.gov/. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to us and we can advise you as to your specific situation and itinerary.
Will I get seasick?
While not everyone gets seasick or motion sickness on a cruise, if you happen to be the one that does, it can be an unpleasant experience. There are a number of things you can do to prevent seasickness before you even get on the ship. Things like cabin selection, hydration and motion-sickness patches and medications can go a long way in preventing motion sickness on the high seas, For more information and suggestions, please visit our blog here.
What can I expect when I get to the port for embarkation?
This is an excellent question! You can expect to see a lot of people excited to board the ship. Some people will be on their best behavior and others will not but regardless, the cruise line employees will do their very best to get everyone onboard in a timely fashion. Please remember that if you are boarding a holiday cruise, or traveling in less than ideal weather, such as a rain/thunderstorm, there may be delays. The best way to start your vacation on the right foot is to put on smile and make the best of whatever situation you are given.
Do I HAVE to book a shore excursion?
The beauty of being vacation is that most of the 'have tos" go out the window! While excursions can be an amazing way to enhance your cruise experience, you do not 'have to' book an excursion. Many passengers stay on the ship on some ports of call and others like the idea of exploring on their own. If you choose to adventure on your own, please educate yourself on the risks and benefits of your decision. We value you and want you to be safe! If you want to book an excursion, please let us know and we will be happy to advise and assist you. If you don't, you will have a great time anyway!
Do I HAVE to dress up for formal/dress your best night?
Dress codes for cruises vary depending on the cruise line. Most cruise lines recognize that their passengers are on vacation and dressing up is not at the top of their list. Cruise lines will inform their guests of the daily dress code for their particular sailing. Typically formal wear is for the evening and in specific locations of. the ship, such as the dining room. If you choose to dress formally, a nice suit or dinner jacket is sufficient for men and ladies can wear a gown, cocktail dress or pantsuit. If you need more information, contact your travel agent directly and they will help you. Regardless of what you pick, we know you will look great!
How do I pay for things on the ship?
Cruise ships are cashless. While most food, nonalcoholic beverages, and entertainment are included in the cruise fare, there are some items that cost extra. Any purchases made (alcohol, some dining options; some activities, etc.) will be billed to your onboard account. You account will be settled prior to departure. You can do so by cash, credit/debit card or travelers checks. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT USE PERSONAL CHECKS ONBOARD THE SHIP.
How do I keep up with all the activities on the ship?
There is a daily program available on board so you are aware of the activities going on aboard the ship. Talk directly with your travel agent and they will give you cruise line specific information to give you about your specific sailing.
What about my cell phone?
After you board the ship and complete your Muster Drill, take just a minute to PUT YOUR PHONE ON AIRPLANE MODE. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the joy of starting your vacation, but before the fun starts take a few seconds to put your phone on airplane mode. This will prevent your phone from incurring hundreds if not thousands of dollars in charges from your cell phone provider. If this option is not pleasing to you, check with your cell phone provider for any cruise packages they may offer.
